Broomfield Hospital

Broomfield Hospital Private Finance Initiative scheme, for Mid-Essex NHS Hospital Services Trust, will provide a 43 000m2 new build acute hospital including more than 330 beds, A&E and maternity departments, plus neonatal intensive care unit.

The project will create a single acute hospital site in Mid Essex providing first class facilities for the local population.

Our part in this project was to install 3 new diesel generators into a basement level, purpose built hall; the generators will provide essential back up power for vital hospital services. Careful planning was required to execute this difficult lift and shift operation. A 120 Tonne capacity crane was selected for the task and carefully positioned close to an overhead helipad and within the working radius of a tower crane. The generators and their ancillary components were carefully lowered into the basement and transferred over a 250 mm x 250 mm step into the generating hall. We had to complete this phase of the project in just one day, ( 5 artic loads) so that disruption to the construction project as a whole was kept to an absolute minimum.
