Extreme Hiab

We have visited this site on behalf of our client on many occasions and susbsequently solved a multitude of problems. On this occasion the problem was that a permanent lifting beam needed to be fitted over a pump assembly for future maintenance work, we had positioned the tanks and pumps on a previous visit. The task seems simple enough until you take into account the overhead powerlines running at 110,000 volts, the lines can be switched off and isolated but that would mean a great number of homes and businesses would have to suffer a power cut. We came up with a solution, the deployment of a super hiab, to be specific an XS800 E 7 Hi pro. This extreme machine is a masterpiece of engineering, fitted with a telescoping fly-jib, a radius of over 27 metres can be achieved, at this radius the machine has a capacity of 1380 kgs, more than enough to cope with the lifting beam suspended from the hook. By using the hiab in this way, the load could kept very low and the boom of the hiab telescoped out horizontally, thus keeping the boom and the load well away from the overhead powerlines. We prepared a risk assessment and method statement well in advance and copies were submitted to the relevant authorities for approval. To maintain a safe clearance with a conventional mobile crane would be virtually impossible at this radius.
